ENTRY #3

GMO lab
For my biotechnology class we got into groups and test different organism that might of contain GMO.
My partner and I tested a fresh corn if it contain GMO. There was 4 steps we had to do in order that we could find out if the corn had GMO those steps are..
  1. DNA extraction of food products
  2. Set up PCR reaction
  3. Gel electrophoresis of PCR product
  4. Analysis and interpretation of results

What is PCR and what is it's purpose?
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is to amplify a specific gene. In order to do PCR you would need template which is helps the DNA be amplified and 2 primers which is a foward and reverse primers. We did PCR in this lab so we could take a specific gene from the corn and test it that way we could know if it contains GMO or not.
